Janet Oglesby – Head Coach
Coach Janet Oglesby is entering her 14th year at South Paulding High School where she started the program in 2006. Under Oglesby’s helms, the Spartans have finished region runner-up three times and advanced to the state tournament seven of the last nine years, including trips to the Elite 8 and Sweet 16. The Spartans had their best finish in school history in 2012 as they advanced to the Elite Eight and finished tied for 5th place in the state. Prior to starting the Spartan program, Coach Oglesby served as the head coach at Harrison High School for eleven years where her team finished state runner-up twice and captured the 2000 AAAAA State Championship. While at Harrison, Coach Oglesby was awarded many honors, including AAAAA Georgia Coach of the Year, Cobb County Coach of the Year and Region Coach of the Year. She has also coached in the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association and Georgia Dugout Club All-Star games. In 2015, Coach Oglesby was inducted into the Georgia Dugout Club Hall of Fame. She is a graduate of Fayette County High School, where she is a member of the FCHS Hall of Fame, and played college softball at Georgia Southern University. While at Georgia Southern, she earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Marketing. She completed her graduate work at Georgia State University earning a Master of Science degree in Sports Administration. After working in college athletics, Coach Oglesby attended Kennesaw State University where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Physical Education and served as an assistant softball coach. Her teaching responsibilities include Personal Fitness, Health, and Sports Medicine. She and her husband John have two children, Kalin and Jake, who are both SPHS alumni.
Gary Jones – Head JV and Varsity Assistant
Coach Jones enters his tenth year as an assistant coach with the Spartan Softball Program where he will serve as the Head JV Coach and varsity assistant.. He was born and raised in Cobb County where he graduated from Osborne High School. Coach Jones earned a B.S. in Business Administration and a B.S. in Secondary Math Education from Kennesaw State University. He also earned a Master’s Degree in Secondary Math Education from Piedmont College. Coach Jones has been teaching Math at SPHS since 2008. Prior to coming to SPHS, he taught at Harrison High School from 2000 to 2003 and South Paulding Middle School from 2005 to 2008. His coaching experience includes nineteen years in slow and fast pitch softball. He also was an assistant football coach (receivers and defensive backs) and an assistant girls’ soccer coach at South Paulding Middle School. Coach Jones enjoys spending time with his three children and six grandchildren.
Ashlee McKenzie – Assistant Coach
Coach Ashlee McKenzie is entering her first year in Paulding County as a 3rd grade teacher at Dugan Elementary. She comes to the Paulding County School District after teaching two years in the Douglas County School District. Coach McKenzie was born and raised in Paulding County. She graduated from SPHS where she was a member of the Spartan softball team from 2009-2012. In 2010 McKenzie and the Lady Spartans finished as the region runner-up. After graduation, she continued her collegiate softball career by playing at Huntingdon College where she received the All Freshman and All Conference awards. McKenzie completed her Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education at the University of West Georgia. After college, Coach McKenzie became an assistant coach for the Georgia Storm and the Georgia Impact travel ball teams. In 2017 she became the assistant softball coach for the Stewart Middle School Lady Eagles and became the head softball coach in 2018. Coach McKenzie has three siblings who also graduated from SPHS. In May of 2019, she married Matt McKenzie, also an alumnus of SPHS.
Charlie Beecham – Assistant Coach
Coach Beecham enters his first year as an assistant coach with the Spartan Softball Program. He was born in Cleveland, TN, and raised in Cedartown, GA, where he graduated from Cedartown High School. He served in the United States Army from 1984-1995, serving all over the world. Coach Beecham earned a B.S. in Middle Grades Social Studies and Science from the University of West Georgia. He also earned a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Jacksonville State University. He earned an Educational Specialist Degree in Curriculum from Piedmont College. He taught at Stewart Middle School from 2002-2003, South Paulding Middle School from 2003-2015, Carrollton Junior High School from 2015-2017, and Scoggins Middle School from 2017-present. He has taught 6th, 7th, and 8th grade science, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade social studies, and physical education. His coaching experience includes head coach Junior High Tennis (boys and girls), head coach Junior High School swimming (boys and girls), head coach 7th grade football at South Paulding Middle School, assistant middle school football coach (linebackers and receivers), assistant coach middle school softball, and head coach 9th grade football and varsity assistant football coach at South Paulding High School. Coach Beecham and his wife of twenty years Jennifer have two children, Zachary a Sophomore at the University of Georgia, and Emily a senior at Carrollton High School. He enjoys playing golf and reading.
